Charity: Mustard Seed Food Bank
This month the charity that my wife, Katie, and I are sponsoring is the Mustard Seed Food Bank. As Katie is a member of the Rotary Club of Victoria, we are participating through the Rotary Centennial Cup Polo Match and Tea on Sunday, August 25th, 2013 from 1-4 pm where Rotary is raising funds for the Mustard Seed Food Bank in Victoria.
About The Mustard Seed Food Bank:
The Mustard Seed (www.mustardseed.ca) is a non-profit organization fighting hunger and restoring faith in Greater Victoria. The organisation provides many crucial services for any and all people in need. From food to friendship, the Mustard Seed aims to meet the physical, relational, and spiritual needs of the whole person. They have an active weekday drop-in center that offers all sorts of services such as chapel, hair cutting, nursing, a clothing bank, access to home starter kits, and more.
They regularly serve weekend meals and offer a host of other weekend activities. The Mustard Seed runs the largest Food Bank on Vancouver Island, providing nutritious hampers to neighbours in need throughout the week. Its skilled staff offers advocacy, counseling, addictions recovery and many other resources.
Above all, the Mustard Seed is a place of acceptance and unconditional love. They cultivate a community of compassion where all are welcome. As they fight hunger and poverty together, the staff and volunteers meet their guests where they are at. They strive to break the cycle of poverty in their guests’ lives by offering them a hand-up, reminding everyone of their human potential and worth.
The Mustard Seed list of services is rather extensive and can’t possibly be covered in this blog but check out the website to learn more about the programs they run. Or if you are on Vancouver Island and want a tour, head down to 625 Queens Ave and see what the Mustard Seed is all about. They would love to show you around. (www.mustardseed.ca)
