November 10, 2012

Some of the beauty that is the U.S.A – Big Sur, California!

With a country as big and diverse as the United States of America where do you begin? Well first off, it has 50 states and 48 of them are located in Central North America and borders Canada to the north, Mexico to the South, the Pacific Ocean to the West and the Atlantic Ocean to the East. The island of Hawaii is part of the 50 states but is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and Alaska is also part of the 50 states but is located in the northwest of the continent and has Canada bordering it to the East and Russia to the West across the Bering Strait.

The flag of the United States of America!

The official language of the United States is English though you will find that Spanish comes a close second in many places like Florida, New York and the Southwest states. The population of the U.S. is over 314 million and because of that it is the third-largest and most ethnically and multi-culturally diverse nations in the world due to large scale immigration from many countries. As a matter of fact most U.S. citizens can trace their close relatives back to other countries as they left their homelands to make a better life and seek out the ‘American Dream’.

In the U.S.A you can satisfy just about any of your destination whims whether it be to lay on the beach, climb a mountain, go shopping in places like Rodeo drive in Los Angeles or 5th Avenue in New York City, or see the entire country from sea to shining see aboard an Amtrak train all of this and more is easily available to you. All you have to do is decide what you want and then go to where the action is.

The Amtrak is a great way to see the U.S.A from sea to sea!

If you like city life your only challenge is going to be which city or cities you want to see in your allotted time in the States. Some of the most popular cities for people to visit are New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, or Phoenix and there are boundless others that are more than worthy of a visit too.

San Francisco is a really fun city to visit and the views are fantastic!

If you want to see the majesty of the U.S.A. then places like the Grand Canyon with it’s awe inspiring views, Mount Rushmore, Yosemite National Park, and of course if you have the ability and time it’s always a fantastic feeling if you can sit on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean one day and find yourself on the shores of the Pacific Ocean a few days later.

The Grand Canyon, one of the world’s most awe inspiring places!

As for food in the United States, well you can get anything your heart desires Italian, Spanish, Mexican, Irish, Germany, you name it it’s here but if you want to experience American food just look for the closest burger or BBQ joint and have a feast but be warned in the States portion sizes are huge and unfortunately so are many of it’s citizens. Obesity rates in the United States are among the highest in the world with approximately one-third of the population obese and another one-third considered over-weight.

Typical American food isn’t exactly healthy!

If you love movies than a visit to Hollywood, California should be on your itinerary as most movies are made here and you just might see one of your favorite stars walking down the street. Many of the movie studios also have tours where you can see where your favorite movies or T.V. shows are filmed and maybe even be an extra in a scene if you’re lucky.

So as you can see there are so many things to see here it’s impossible to cover them all. But the U.S.A. definitely worth a visit!
